Poinsettia Sale

We adopted our Annual Poinsettia Sale from the former Sertoma Club. Poinsettias are available around the end of November each year. All proceeds are used for our Signing Santa Program that benefits hearing impaired children in the Muscogee County School District. We used last years proceeds to purchase 10 iPads for use in several public school classrooms by special needs students.

Oratorical Contest

Each Spring, our club hosts an Oratorical Contest that is open to any child under the age of 19 who has not yet graduated from high school. It gives students an opportunity to test and hone their public speaking skills, win prizes, win scholarship money, and qualify to compete in Zone, State, and even National Oratorical Contests hosted by Optimist International.

Fore Kids Columbus Youth Golf Tournament

Every Summer, usually the first part of June, our club hosts the Fore Kids Columbus Youth Golf Tournament at Godwin Creek Golf Club in Columbus, GA. The tournament is open to all kids age 18 and below. There are no tournament entry fees and players compete to win trophies and prizes. All entrants receive door prizes and lunch. Money is raised through tournament sponsors made up of local businesses. All proceeds benefit the Fore Kids Columbus program (formerly First Tee) which teaches kids life skills such as integrity, sportsmanship, and honesty through the game of golf.

Food For Kids

In conjunction with Feeding the Valley and the BETA Club students at Columbus High School, we help feed kids for the weekend at Downtown Elementray School, Hannan Magnet Academy, and Truth Springs Academy. We purchase the food from Feeding the Valley, the CHS BETA Club packs the food in individual boxes, and our Club delivers the food weekly to the 3 schools. Kids in the program are given the food on Fridays to take home for the weekend. Through this program we are able to provide food for over 150 kids weekly for the weekend who may not have anything otherwise.

Signing Santa

Ever think about how a hearing impaired child can communicate with Santa Claus to give him his Christmas wishes? Hearing and speaking is something we all too often take for granted. Each year, our club hosts a Signing Santa Christmas Party where hearing impaired children get to speak with a Santa Claus who knows sign language! What a treat for them, and what a treat for us when their faces light up with joy! The kids enjoy lunch and are given Christmas presents as well.
Mother's Day Tulip Sale

This Mother's Day we will be holding our Annual Tulip Sale. The flowers we will be selling are long life tulips by BlooMaker. These are hydroponic bulbs planted in water that actually grow and bloom in a vase right on your kitchen table! All proceeds go to our general fund to benefit the many youth organizations that we support. Ask for more information from an Optimist Club member now.
